Evan Longoria might be the new stud of Major League Baseball. His powerful bat propelled the Tamba Bay Rays to their frist ever postseason win in yesterday’s action. They Rays outlasted the powerful Chicago White Sox in St Petersburg, Florida. As for a home record, the Rays posted the best in the league with a 57-24 spot.

July 31st signifies the "no waiver" trade deadline. After that, you can still do a trade but the player has to clear waivers first. Tough chance on getting that done this year. And the reason for that is
because I do not think that there is any team out there that does not need help.
In the American League, you have the Yankees , Rays , and the Red Sox all in a fight for the lead in the East. In the Central, you are looking at the White Sox and the Twins fighting for the lead. Some say that the Tigers still have a chance. For me, it is an outside chance with the way that they have been playing. As for the west, the Angels are in control of their own destiny.
In the National League you have the Marlins , Phillies , Braves , and Mets that are all vying for the top spot in the east. In the central, I think that it is a 3 team race with the Cubs , Cardinals , and Brewers . As for the west, it looks like the Diamondbacks and Dodgers are nose to nose. Some think that the Rockies and the Giants are still in contention, but as for me, I think they need to sale.

For all you great baseball fans out there, such a game took place last night. It was between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Dodgers were the home team and the combination of starter Jered Weaver and reliever Jose Arredondo who pitched a total of 8 no hit innings. The only run that was produced in this 1-0 win for the Dodgers was manufactured by way of 2 errors on the Angels. The first of which was on Weaver. I have to say that when I first heard of the ruling, it left me dumb founded. I thought that it is a sad day for pitchers when they can produce such a feat and not get rewarded with anything more than the innings pitched. Hats off to the Halos anyway.

If you have been following any of my sports post lately, you know that the Georgia Bulldogs are on a tear right now. Since entering the final stages of the 2008 Men's College World Series being held at Omaha's Johnny Rosenblatt's Stadium, The Bulldogs of Georgia remain undefeated. With that said, the road has not always been peachy for them. Let's take a review.
Georgia played in the SEC tournament and was pretty much a no show there. They were knocked out in the first round. Ole Miss put them out in the first round of the Losers bracket. With that said, Georgia was ranked 8th in the nation and therefore, was an automatic for the tournament.
Georgia had the honor of hosting the Regionals at Foley Field in Athens Georgia. They were going up against 3 strong teams in the form of Lipscomb, Georgia Tech, and Louisville. Georgia lost their opener against Lipscomb 10-7 only to come out with bats-a-blazing in the rest of that series to outscore their opponets 49 to 17 for the remaining 4 games to advanse to a best of 3 series against NC State. With that being said, the first 2 games were split with Georgia taking the first 11-4 and NC State taking the second 10-6. Georgia decide to unload its arsenal in the final game crushing NC State 17-8 to advance to Omaha.

Ok, so you can say that I have been really falling down on doing this post and there is really no excuses that will suffice. No excuses, just time to get back on track. Going forward just know that every Sunday you can come here to get you dose of Baseball talk. Play the video to the right and let the music be your background as you read my thoughts..
With the close approaching All Star game and the baseball draft that just passed, I thought that it would be good to turn our views over to college baseball as the College World Series is shaping up. Might as well spread some love to the guys that will soon be doing this same task for a lot of big bucks. As I am writing this 6 of the elite 8 have made it in. Miami Hurricanes, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, North Carolina Tar Heels, Stanford Cardinal, and Rice Owls all make up the 6 teams in with two teams left to be decide.
The road to Omaha is a gruling one. It is sorta like the basketball tourney as it starts with 64 teams and then whittle down to 16. Those 16 play a best of 3 series for the right to go to Omaha and play the other 7 best teams in the nation for the chance to call themselves World Champions.
The final games will be played in Omaha's Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium that was built in 1948 and has been home to the Men's College World Series since 1950. It will once again commence there on June 14th through June 25th of 2008 to decide who will leave as World Champions. Eight walk in, but only one can walk out a winner.
Each of the eigth teams that are making this trip will also carry supporters with them. I know for myself, i will be glued to the tv whenever the Seminoles or Georgia take the field as I am a huge supporter of both. Pick your posion and lets see who makes it to the top.

Earlier tonight I wrote a post on my other blog entitled Braves Attempt to sweep Mets tonight. Well, it is no longer an attempt as they withstood the test of Johan Santana and the New York Mets as they spin off yet another home win to lead all the majors for home victories.
What really gets me is the fact that everyone was practically handing the Mets the Nation League East Pennant when they signed Santana and stating that he would be the next big thing in New York to bring home a World Series Trophy. But, that is not the path that they are on and people are asking for Willie Randolph's head. It seems that Willie can not even get a return call from the owners after 3 attempts after his meltdown over SNY and their publicized comments.
What I would like to know is when are people going to start pointing a finger at Omar Minaya. He has to have some accountability in this whole situation. I mean it was bad enough that the Mets had a meltdown with just 17 games left and lost a 7 game lead to be destroyed. People talked about Willie getting the can then and yet here he was again.
Now, you all know that I am not a Mets fan. But with that said, I am a baseball fan and what I can not stand is a coach that does not get fired up about anything. Who cares what you do in your office or the club house. We the fans want to know that this type of play pisses you off. Show some emotion and grow a set and sit some of your players. Maybe then they might know that you are for real.
Bad thing is, Willie has the same look on his face from beginning to end of the game. In my 30 some odd years of playing and coaching, I have never encountered this type of reaction. Willie was a great player when he played and he came to the park daily ready to play. But lets face it, he aint no Billy Martin. What does the future hold for Willie and how will he be remembered in New York? That is the question to ask.
