Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr Rematch

It looks like this rematch is about to become a bout. From everything that I see the fight will take place either September the 13th or September the 20th and it looks like it will air on HBO Pay-Per-View. This is being built up as one of the premier fights of 2008 and tickets will surely be sold out way in advance.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has stated that he has reserved the 27,000-seat Home Depot Center, the outdoor home to the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer, for both September 13th and September 20th. He said other venues are also interested, including the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Either venue is sure to blow through ticket sales in a hurry.

Originally there was talk of Oscar De La Hoya having a match with Miguel Cotto, however, Promoter Bob Arum says that it was a rouse to push Floyd Mayweather Jr and his camp into the rematch. Arum went on to state that he knew that De La Hoya wanted no piece of Cotto because Arum never got to talk to Schaefer. He added that De La Hoya did not want to face Cotto because "he'd be in for a serious beating".

If one of these dates stand, and the fight does take place in September, it will have been 16 months removed from his last fight for De La Hoya and 9 months for Mayweather Jr. At the age of 34, De La Hoya is going to go into this bout as the underdog to the 30 year old Mayweather Jr.

If you are a boxing fan, then I would recommend getting on the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Oscar De La Hoya tickets today so that once the dates and venue is announced, you can get your tickets before all the rest.
